THE BRIEF
The Brief - Topography : Project 6
This project involves designing a research hub and learning centre, and also an overnight accommodation for those studying or researching at the site for only short term durations. It must be able to cater to public viewing and be community friendly. It will be 3 units, one building embedded in, the second on and one elevated above. There must be a path, walkway or staircase that connects these elements all together, in the mannerist way of “mystery” and “journey”, perhaps that should be the atmosphere of the site.
The building units must act as an “environmental filter”, which means it must be able to protect the inhabitants from the natural environment (e.g. wind, sun, rain) and human impact. Therefore, what materials I will use, as well as shape of the building and orientation, will be important factors in my design.
The client that has been given to me is an Entomologist or a group of Entomologist. However, since this subject is very broad, with many entomologists who specialise in particular species and breeds I have, as a result, decided to focus on the domain of Forensic Entomology. Using this information I will develop my client brief.
